Executive Director, Checkout Research Science

Checkout is a revolutionary marketing research platform that captures consumer purchases from smartphones and transforms the data into information products for our many clients.? From millions of consumers we mine hundreds of millions of receipts - yielding transaction-level detail across all retailers, all channels, and over time.


Position Overview:


The Executive Director, Checkout Research Science will be responsible for strategic vision and direction and for helping Checkout continue growing its existing business and launch new businesses based on sound research methods. We?re seeking an accomplished professional with a demonstrated ability to make complex decisions. This person must also be able to synthesize and explain research issues in a way that can be understood by others at Checkout and by our clients. This position will report directly to Checkout?s Chief Technology Officer.


The Research Science team is responsible for ensuring that all of Checkout?s services conform to our high standards with respect to methodology, data quality, and applicability to business issues. Focus areas include the specification and monitoring of sampling and projection techniques, benchmarking and definition of report measures.


This team is actively involved in designing new methodologies and the development/maintenance of approaches to evaluate the accuracy and representativeness of Checkout data. This position partners with Innovation team to identify breakthrough techniques at the cutting edge of the research industry.


Overall Responsibilities:



  • Develop, evaluate and communicate the guidelines and standards for Checkout?s research methods and data collection/analysis techniques.

  • Use R, Python, and/or SPSS to:

  • Design methodological enhancements to Checkout?s processes.

  • Carry out tests of alternative implementations of these enhancements.

  • Conduct basic research which draws on existing Checkout data to study different aspects of consumer reporting performance.

  • Apply multivariate and machine learning techniques to the above problems.

  • Build advisory relationships with key clients from which you can derive client and industry insights to advance Checkout?s reputation, positioning and long-term growth.

  • Enhance the testing and adoption of new methods to strengthen the scope and accuracy of information available to Checkout and our clients.

  • Develop and maintain awareness of external research techniques that can be applied to Checkout?s business.

  • Provide leadership to inspire the team to exceed goals and position the department for success.

  • Identify third party relationships for integration of external data sources.


Qualifications:



  • 10+ years of experience within client service or consumer insights with a market research company, consulting firm, manufacturer or retailer, with a strong statistical or modeling focus.

  • Master?s degree in statistics, applied math, business, or economics or a related field requiring strong quantitative skills. PhD is a plus.

  • Excellent survey design and analysis skills, including sampling and questionnaire design; and development of survey weighting schemes.

  • Deep understanding of latest approaches to reducing or eliminating bias associated with non-probability sampling and quasi-experimentation.

  • Proven expertise in using advanced statistical and modeling techniques in the analysis of longitudinal consumer data to help drive business decisions.

  • Strong knowledge of advanced quantitative methods and/or delivery of value-added solutions such as forecasting and marketing mix modeling.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially relative to translating abstract concepts to business specifics as well as developing project proposals and deliverables.

  • Very strong interpersonal skills and proven experience at building and leading cross-organizational teams. A developer of talent, with an ability to manage well in a matrix organization.

  • Ability to balance strategic thinking and contribution with hands-on, tactical management.

  • Capable of influencing and persuading a broad range of decision influencers and decision makers; particularly effective in sensitive or high-pressure situations

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
